Why I am standing in Mays County Council Elections
The next two to three years will be a turning point in local politics as District & County Councils are devolved into a new Unitary Authority, it is going to be crucial that there is a strong experienced voice that is unfazed by the system and will act in the best interest of residents without the constraints of party politics.
I have served as an Independent District Councillor since 2011, I have held the post of Chair, Vice Chair, Cabinet Member, Audit, Scrutiny, Planning, and licensing committee member.
In 2023 I was elected as the FoDDC representative on Gloucestershire County Council Health Overview Scrutiny Committee.
I am reaching out to people who live within the Newent Division of the Forest of Dean, covering the parishes of
Bromsberrow ; Dymock ; Gorsley & Kilcot ; Kempley ; Newent ; Oxenhall ; Pauntley ; Redmarley D'Abitot ; Staunton ; Upleadon.

Your voice in forming a new Council
Today Julia Gooch begins her campaign to represent the Newent area in what will be the last ever Gloucestershire County Council. She is standing because she does not believe such an important step as forming a new Unitary authority should be conducted along party political lines. We have seen the disastrous consequences of a Green administration in the Forest of Dean District Council. Julia has been continually holding that administration to account on behalf of the people in her ward,in stark contrast to the Green-aligned Lib Dem group leader and current Newent County Councillor who speaks and votes as if she is part of the Green administration. Julia's honesty, common sense, diligence and sheer pride in representing her community stand out among all her many qualities. She has the full support of her Progressive Independent colleagues and we hope you will help Julia ensure that the community voice is heard in all levels of local government.
